Bio
Welcome to the Karakura Institute. Here at the Institute, we pride ourselves on our hospitality, charity and comfort. We hope that you enjoy it here -- the era, by the way, is late 19th century Victorian England.
Funded by the Healing Souls Society, the Karakura Institute is a well-furbished, comfortable building in one of the most picturesque, clement parts of the country. It is a privately-owned mental asylum, offering the best care in the country, and it is very, very expensive. However, its manager, Aizen Sousuke, is a very charitable man, who frequently funds the treatment of those not wealthy enough to afford it out of his own pocket. Many of the patients at the Institute owe their continued presence there to Aizen.
However, not all of the patients are happy with being at the Institute. Many are resentful, and indeed, despite the attempts to make it seem as welcoming and comfortable as possible, the Institute is still, effectively, a prison. Many people are kept there by their family or the legal system. There are those who are there by choice, and who are quite content with being at the Institute; however, it could not, on the whole, be called a happy place. Certainly, there is no cruelty on the part of the administration or the therapists, but a prison is a prison. Not even the staff are completely carefree; many have their own secrets and worries.
But the human psyche is an amazingly resilient thing, capable of finding metaphorical light even in the most gloomy darkness. There is always the question -- will we make it? -- but somewhere, there is always some sort of comfort: a sanctuary, an asylum, can be found within the hearts and minds of people.
